Metro Nashville has announced the initiation of design work for a new Fire Department Headquarters and Fire Station 2. To accommodate this development, the headquarters will temporarily relocate to the Bridgestone Building at Global Mall. This move marks a significant step in realizing the public’s vision for the site, as expressed through extensive community engagement initiatives. Progress at the Global Mall includes new zoning regulations, preparations for interior demolition, and the planning of a new neighborhood transit center.
Fire Department Director Chief William Swann expressed enthusiasm about the temporary relocation, stating, “The Nashville Fire Department is excited to announce our temporary relocation to the Global Mall at Hickory Hollow Parkway. Thanks to the support of multiple mayoral administrations, we have been able to expand our services to meet the growing needs of our community.” The temporary location at Global Mall offers the necessary space to support the department’s expansion, especially as they prepare for the construction of the new facilities.
Mayor Freddie O’Connell emphasized the importance of aligning the Global Mall redevelopment with community expectations. “We’ve worked very hard with the Antioch community to ensure the overall Global Mall site delivers what neighbors envision, want, and need. As an interim step, we can now put a core public safety function on site temporarily that activates one of the buildings,” he remarked.
The Metro Planning Commission adopted the Global Mall Master Plan in July, and the upcoming demolition of the mall’s interior is scheduled to begin in early 2025. Current tenants, such as the Southeast Community Center, Nashville State, and Bridgestone, will continue to operate at the site. The Choose How You Move initiative ensures ongoing development of a community transit center that will serve South Nashville.
