Nashville, TN – William Edward Robinson of 30th Avenue North was identified as the deceased in a tragic incident that occurred on Friday night. The 22-year-old Nashville resident suffered fatal injuries after crashing his Infiniti G37 sedan into the retaining walls of the Briley Parkway south exit ramp off I-40. Following the crash, Robinson jumped over the right retaining wall and fell a significant distance to the grassy area adjacent to the Briley Parkway north exit ramp.
Responding officers rendered aid before Robinson was transported to Skyline Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Efforts to locate his next of kin have been unsuccessful so far.
The investigation revealed that a Hermitage Precinct officer was traveling west on I-40 at 8:11 p.m. Friday when he noticed the Infiniti merge onto the interstate with a loosely attached, expired license plate. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the Infiniti accelerated at a high rate of speed and moved to the far left lane. The officer ceased pursuit after 18 seconds. Another officer saw the Infiniti pass at a high rate of speed before it took the Briley Parkway south ramp, striking both the left and right retaining walls before stopping. Officers then saw the driver exit the vehicle, run behind it, and jump over the wall.
At the time of the incident, Robinson was wanted in Sumner County on an outstanding felony probation violation warrant. Inside the vehicle, officers found a Glock pistol modified to be fully automatic, 22.7 grams of crystal meth, 55.7 grams of a white powder, 17.1 grams of a purple powder, two digital scales, and a drum magazine with bullets.
Detectives expect to classify Robinson’s death as accidental pending the autopsy report from the Medical Examiner.
