A pedestrian who was struck and killed by a semi-truck on Murfreesboro Pike near Fesslers Lane on Tuesday night has been identified as Douglas White, 63. The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m.
Preliminary investigations suggest that White and a friend were walking on the sidewalk when the semi-truck was pulling into a driveway. White reportedly walked into the side of the truck, was knocked to the ground, and subsequently run over.
The driver of the semi-truck, identified as Hassan Yusuf, 56, left the scene on foot but was quickly located by officers. Yusuf informed the officers that he was unaware he had struck someone. He was issued citations for leaving the scene of a crash involving a fatality and failure to render aid.
There were no signs of impairment observed in Yusuf at the scene. The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct toxicology testing on White to determine if impairment was a contributing factor.
