Mother and Son Charged in Rio Vista Drive Shooting

Mother and son arrested for a shooting on Rio Vista Drive that left a man seriously injured.

Specialized Investigations detectives have arrested a mother and son in connection with a shooting that occurred on May 28 on Rio Vista Drive, which left a man seriously injured. The incident reportedly happened during an argument.

Detectives apprehended Michelle Thornton, 43, and her son Deandre Thornton, 18, on Tuesday afternoon. They were located traveling in a car and were successfully stopped in the 400 block of Gallatin Pike N. During the arrest, two firearms, a nine-millimeter pistol and a .40 caliber handgun, were recovered.

Both Michelle and Deandre Thornton have been charged with attempted criminal homicide and gun possession during the commission of a felony. They are currently being held with a bond set at $510,000 each.

Suspect in February Shooting Arrested in Atlanta

Devin Lauderdale, a 25-year-old from Georgia, has been arrested in Atlanta for his involvement in a February shooting that injured a man on Hillview Heights. Lauderdale was identified as one of two men involved in the incident where the victim was shot non-critically near 8th Avenue South. He is charged with attempted criminal homicide and will be returned to Nashville as the investigation continues to find the gunman responsible.
