Investigation Ongoing for Hit-and-Run Incident in Nashville

Authorities seek information on a Nissan Frontier involved in a critical injury hit-and-run.

The ongoing investigation into the hit-and-run accident that left Matthew Carney, 42, critically injured has led authorities to suspect a 2001-2004 gray and silver Nissan Frontier with black rims. Carney, the owner of the Smokin Thighs restaurant on Wedgewood Avenue, was struck by the vehicle on June 19.

Surveillance footage and images reveal that the pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed. The incident occurred around 6 p.m., with the vehicle approaching from the rear of the restaurant. Carney was thrown onto the pavement of Wedgewood Avenue as a result. The truck is then believed to have turned onto Bransford Avenue.

Carney remains hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and due to his medical condition, officers have yet to interview him. On the day of the incident, Carney’s vehicle was found running with the door open in the restaurant’s rear parking lot. The events leading up to the accident between Carney and the unknown driver remain unclear.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. A reward of more than $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the driver. Additional video footage related to the investigation can be viewed here.
