Homicide Unit detectives have charged De’Anthony Osasosifo, 15, with criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide following a fatal shooting at Red Caboose Park in Bellevue on Wednesday night. The incident resulted in the death of 13-year-old Aayden Hayes and the non-lethal wounding of Hayes’ 16-year-old sister.
The shooting took place just before 8 p.m. The wounded teenager managed to reach the nearby fire station, where she received emergency medical care before being transported to Vanderbilt. Responding officers found Aayden Hayes in the park’s parking lot, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was also rushed to Vanderbilt but was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
Witnesses provided information that led West Precinct officers to search for the shooter. Osasosifo, who matched the description given, was found walking along Highway 70, approximately a quarter to half a mile from the park, and was detained. During an interview at police headquarters, Osasosifo admitted to possessing a gun and firing it during a fight among teens at the park. The suspected firearm, a nine-millimeter semi-automatic, was located by an ATF dog along Osasosifo’s path of flight. The gun was reported stolen from a vehicle in Murfreesboro earlier in 2023.
The investigation revealed that two groups of teens had met at the park to settle an ongoing dispute between girls from each group. During the altercation, Osasosifo allegedly escalated the situation by opening fire with the pistol.
