Murfreesboro, Tenn. – Chief Michael Bowen of the Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) has officially announced the promotions of officers Eric DeLeon and Casey Fiddler to the rank of Sergeant, alongside the recipients of the department’s 2023 awards.
Sergeant Eric DeLeon, who initially joined the MPD in July 2015, briefly served with a department in Florida before returning to Murfreesboro in February 2022. Throughout his service, DeLeon has been a key member of the Special Operations Unit (SOU) and has taken on roles as an ASP Instructor, OC Instructor, Firearms Instructor, and a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Member. DeLeon, who served in the United States Marine Corps, holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Faulkner University.
Sergeant Casey Fiddler, on the other hand, brings over six years of experience to his new position, having started with the MPD in December 2018. His contributions include work as a Field Training Officer (FTO), Traffic Stop Instructor, and member of Directed Patrol. Fiddler is currently working towards his bachelor’s degree at Middle Tennessee State University.
The promotion ceremony for Sgt. DeLeon and Sgt. Fiddler was held at MPD headquarters on Friday, May 10. Chief Bowen expressed confidence in their abilities to excel in their new roles and to continue making a positive impact on the department.
In addition to the promotions, the MPD announced its 2023 department award recipients, recognizing outstanding officers across various divisions for their exemplary service. Among the honorees were Officer Jessica Rose as Officer of the Year in the Uniformed Division – Patrol Services, Officer Danny Jimenez for the Uniformed Division – Specialized Unit, and Detective Ed Gorham for the Criminal Investigations Division, among others.
The awards ceremony highlighted the dedication and hard work of MPD’s officers and staff, reflecting the department’s commitment to excellence and community service.

Nashville Pays Tribute to Fallen Law Enforcement Officers
Nashville is set to honor fallen law enforcement officers with an annual memorial service at the First Baptist Church, acknowledging the sacrifices of 47 officers since 1875, including Officer John Anderson who died in 2019.
