Mayor McFarland Honors Robert Holtz with STARS Award

Mayor McFarland presented Robert Holtz with the STARS award at the City Council meeting.

During the City Council meeting on May 23, 2024, Mayor Shane McFarland recognized Robert Holtz, the Community Development Director, with the STARS award. Holtz, who assumed his current role in February 2023, previously served as the Director of Building & Codes since 2016 after joining the City of Murfreesboro in August 1996 as a Plans Examiner.

The STARS nomination, submitted by several City employees, highlighted Holtz’s exceptional service in the Community Development department. The nomination emphasized his dedication to the Rehab program, which assists low-to-moderate income homeowners with necessary repairs such as HVAC issues, roof damage, and sinking floors. Holtz’s commitment to the community extends beyond his professional duties, as he develops personal connections with clients, ensuring they feel supported and confident in the services provided.

One notable instance mentioned in the nomination was Holtz’s assistance to an elderly couple who had been without heating for two years, as well as his help in creating an accessible bathroom for another couple. His approach to community service and his friendly, professional communication have made him a respected figure among clients.

Before his tenure with the City of Murfreesboro, Holtz worked as a project manager and estimator for a general contractor and a structural steel company. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Memphis State University and is a native of Cleveland, Tennessee.

The STARS award, which stands for “Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence,” honors City employees who demonstrate outstanding customer service and represent the City positively. The nominations are reviewed monthly by a committee of City employees who vote on the recipients.

Congratulations to Robert Holtz for his exceptional service and for being named a STAR!
