The Tennessee State Museum in Nashville has announced the recipients of grants from its Capital Maintenance and Improvements Grant Program, specifically aimed at disaster relief following the impact of Hurricane Helene. The funding originates from a $5 million allocation by the Tennessee General Assembly in the 2024-2025 Appropriations Act. This allocation was designated solely for providing grants to museums that are either 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or affiliated with governmental entities, focusing on capital maintenance and improvements.
Due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, a portion of these funds was set aside to assist institutions located in the affected counties. These counties include Claiborne, Grainger, Hamblen, Hancock, Jefferson, Sevier, Cocke, Greene, Washington, Hawkins, Unicoi, Carter, Sullivan, and Johnson. The first recipients of these grants were announced in November.
