Tennessee Recognizes Engineers Week in 2025

Tennessee celebrates Engineers Week to honor licensed engineers and architects.

The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s Division of Regulatory Boards has announced that Governor Bill Lee has officially proclaimed the period from February 16 to 22, 2025, as Engineers Week in Tennessee. This week is set aside to honor the significant contributions of licensed engineers and architects in the state.

Governor Bill Lee, himself a licensed engineer, emphasized the importance of these professionals in Tennessee’s growth. “Licensed engineers and architects play an important role in supporting a growing Tennessee,” he stated. “As governor and an engineer by trade, I’m proud to recognize Engineers Week in Tennessee and celebrate the dedicated professionals who strengthen our economy by building homes and businesses across the state.”

The Tennessee Board of Examiners for Architects and Engineers is responsible for setting the standards and qualifications for education, experience, and performance in the fields of architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, and interior design. This board operates under the Division of Regulatory Boards, which oversees more than 300,000 professionals and businesses in Tennessee.

Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance, Carter Lawrence, expressed his support for the proclamation. “Tennessee’s licensed engineering professionals are helping build a strong, safe, and vibrant economy in Tennessee,” he said. He praised the work of these professionals, stating that their efforts are crucial in propelling the state forward.

Currently, Tennessee boasts over 23,000 licensed design professionals, which includes more than 18,000 engineers, over 4,500 architects, and over 850 other design professionals.

Board Chairman Jason Carder, who is also a licensed engineer, highlighted the board’s commitment to maintaining high licensing standards. “I am proud of the Board’s role in helping uphold the state’s licensing standards in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Tennesseans today and future generations in the decades ahead,” he noted.
