On Saturday night, detectives in Nashville were pursuing a stolen Infiniti Q50, which had a stolen license plate, when they attempted to stop the vehicle on Meridian Street at Douglas Avenue. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Montez Harris, accelerated and turned off the car’s lights in an effort to evade the police.
A police helicopter tracked the vehicle and relayed information to ground units. Officers successfully deployed spike strips on South 11th Street at Shelby Avenue, leading Harris to stop the car at South 11th and Fatherland Streets. Harris, along with his passengers, 18-year-old Jaque’ja Simpson and a 17-year-old male, abandoned the vehicle. The two males were found hiding under another vehicle, while Simpson was later apprehended on South 7th Street.
Harris was found with the car keys and a handgun was discovered along his escape route. Additionally, a bottle of prescription pain medication, not prescribed to Harris, was recovered from the vehicle. Harris faces multiple charges including vehicle theft, evading arrest, theft of property, drug possession, and a weapons violation. At the time of his arrest, he was free on a $75,000 bond from July 2024 for felony drug and weapon possession charges. He also had outstanding warrants for aggravated assault and reckless endangerment related to an incident on March 29, 2024. Harris remains in custody with a bond set at $111,000.
