Stolen Designer Sunglasses Recovered in Miami

Police recover $890,000 in stolen sunglasses from Tennessee and South Carolina.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of designer sunglasses, stolen from a Murfreesboro Sunglass Hut and two stores in South Carolina, have been successfully recovered in Florida. The recovery was achieved with the assistance of the Miami Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Task Force. Detective Aaron Gonzalez from the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division provided crucial information to Florida authorities about the stolen sunglasses being shipped to a Miami address, which led to the issuance of a search warrant.

On February 6, HSI agents and Miami police executed the warrant at the Miami residence, but the packages were no longer present. Subsequent investigations directed law enforcement to another location where nine boxes containing stolen sunglasses and merchandise were seized. These items, originating from Murfreesboro, Gaffney, and Bluffton in South Carolina, were valued at $890,000.

Earlier, on January 29, Murfreesboro police, in collaboration with the Smyrna Police Department, Hendersonville Police Department, Goodlettsville Police Department, the MPD Real Time Crime Center, Crime Data Analysts, and LPR technology, led to the arrest of three men from Florida. The Murfreesboro Police Department seized approximately $400,000 worth of sunglasses during this operation.

Detective Gonzalez charged Alexander Trujillo Gomez, 48, Xavier Perez, 52, and Lazaro Salazar Hechavarria, 28, all from Miami, with two counts of burglary, theft of property valued at $250,000 and over, and vandalism over $1,000. Additional charges are pending in Hendersonville and South Carolina. The trio is accused of stealing $1.2 million worth of designer sunglasses, merchandise, and cash across multiple states in a retail theft ring. Salazar-Hechavarria, Trujillo-Gomez, and Perez remain in custody at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, each held on a $1 million bond. A court hearing is scheduled for February 13 in General Sessions Court.
