Nashville Man Charged in Firearm Possession Case

Nashville resident charged with firearm possession following a mall robbery incident.

A Nashville resident, Omari Rashad Moore, aged 30, has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The charge is connected to a shooting incident near the Mall at Green Hills in Nashville. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Robert E. McGuire for the Middle District of Tennessee.

The incident took place on February 4, 2025, when officers from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) were alerted to a potential robbery and shots fired near the mall. At the same time, a separate report of a shooting was received from the I-65 South and I-440 Interstate interchange area, approximately five miles from the mall.

Upon arriving at the mall, officers found two .10 millimeter cartridge casings and a high-capacity magazine with the same ammunition. However, they could not find any victim or suspect at the scene. Meanwhile, officers also responded to the interchange, where they observed a silver Tesla that had crashed into a tree. Inside the vehicle, they discovered two Louis Vuitton bags and found two men nearby, later identified as Moore and another individual, referred to as SUBJECT 1.

A witness to the crash stated that Moore had approached a guardrail after the Tesla accident. MNPD officers recovered a Glock Model: 29, Caliber: .10 millimeter pistol without its magazine near the guardrail. SUBJECT 1 sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Security footage from the mall showed a man leaving with two shopping bags. A silver Tesla, driven by Moore, approached, and Moore was seen exiting with a suspected handgun. A confrontation ensued, after which Moore returned to the Tesla with the shopping bags.

Moore has previous felony convictions in Henderson County and Davidson County, Tennessee. If convicted on the current charge, Moore faces a potential maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. The case is being investigated by the MNPD and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary T. Hinkle prosecuting.

It is important to note that a federal complaint is an allegation, and Moore is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
