MNPD Urges Motorists in Nashville to ‘Park Smart’

MNPD advises Nashville residents to secure cars and valuables to prevent theft.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is urging residents to take precautions by locking their car doors, securing valuables—especially firearms—and removing keys from vehicles. This advisory comes as the department reports that 173 guns have been stolen from vehicles in Nashville this year, with 24 stolen just last week. In total, Davidson County has seen 223 guns stolen in 2025, with 77% of these thefts occurring from automobiles.

To tackle vehicle theft and related crimes, the MNPD initiated a special program a year ago, leading to 1,123 arrests and the recovery of 609 stolen vehicles and 264 guns. Stolen vehicles, much like stolen guns, are frequently used in criminal activities such as carjackings and robberies.

For more information on securing your vehicle and valuables, you can visit the MNPD’s official website.

Mayor Freddie O’Connell and NDOT Director Diana Alarcon emphasize readiness and caution, advising residents to stay informed and give space to working crews. NDOT has updated its snow removal routes for better efficiency, and residents can report non-emergency street issues via hubNashville.
