Metro Social Services Announces Winter Weather Plan

Metro Social Services adjusts operations in response to winter weather conditions.

Metro Social Services (MSS) has announced adjustments to its operations in response to the current winter weather conditions. Executive Director Renee’ Pratt has been actively communicating with Chief William Swann from the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to ensure safety measures are in place for the community.

For the upcoming Friday, MSS offices will reopen with a two-hour delay, operating from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The main phone line will also be available during these hours for inquiries and appointment scheduling. Home Ambassadors will continue their daily meal delivery services to senior, disabled, and homebound clients. Additionally, regular senior welfare calls will resume, ensuring the well-being of vulnerable members in the community.

Earlier in the week, burial services scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, were canceled due to inclement weather, but they are set to resume on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 9 a.m. MSS has taken several precautions to support its clients through the winter weather:

– **Meal Delivery:** Home Ambassadors delivered 733 regular meals along with 822 snow meal boxes, designed to provide sustenance for up to a week without the need for electricity.

– **Senior Welfare Calls:** MSS initiated a new service in Fall 2024, conducting 214 calls to check on senior and disabled clients, addressing any urgent needs like prescription refills or heating system issues.

– **Urgent Home Visits:** MSS provided urgent home visits for clients with immediate needs, conducting two visits before the snowstorm.

Communication with OEM is ongoing, with Director Pratt and her team closely monitoring weather conditions to ensure the safety and support of Nashville residents.
