Metro Social Services has adjusted its operations in response to the expected snowstorm predicted to occur from tonight through mid-day Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The organization serves individuals and families in Davidson County who face various socio-economic challenges, including limited transportation and financial resources, and those dealing with mental health and medical issues. The adjustments aim to maintain the safety and stability of these individuals during the extreme weather conditions.
The department has implemented several measures, effective Tuesday, February 18:
1. **Regular and Snow Meal Delivery**: For homebound clients, including seniors and disabled individuals, 733 meals were delivered as part of weekly meal services. Additional snow meal boxes have been provided, containing food that does not require electricity to prepare, to last up to one week. Daily meal services have been canceled for tomorrow, and recipients are advised to use the snow meals provided.
2. **Senior Welfare Calls: Level 2**: This service, available to senior and disabled clients, involves social workers conducting welfare checks via phone calls. During these checks, staff inquire about specific weather-related concerns, such as the need for prescription refills or heating system functionality. If a need is identified, staff are dispatched to address the issue promptly.
3. **Urgent Home Visits**: Available to all clients, urgent home visits are conducted for critical needs. Two visits were made today to address urgent concerns ahead of the storm.
4. **Indigent Burials**: Scheduled burial services on Wednesday, February 19, are canceled due to the inclement weather. This service is typically provided for individuals in Davidson County who have passed away without financial means or family to claim their remains.
Furthermore, Executive Director Renee Pratt is in communication with Chief Swann from Nashville’s Office of Emergency Management to monitor the situation. She has instructed department leaders to follow established protocols to ensure the safety of Nashville residents. Decisions regarding office hours will be announced based on the weather conditions.
