Memphis Man Sentenced for Firearms Theft and Possession

Kaderion Stokes sentenced for stealing firearms and possessing a machinegun in Tennessee.

A 19-year-old Memphis resident, Kaderion Stokes, has been sentenced to federal prison for charges related to the theft of firearms and possession of a machinegun conversion device, commonly known as a “switch.” The sentencing was announced by Reagan Fondren, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.

On September 9, 2023, approximately 166 firearms were reportedly stolen from a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) business located in Atoka, Tennessee. An officer from the Atoka Police Department noticed a GMC Sierra pickup truck parked outside the business. As the officer approached, the vehicle fled at high speed. It was later determined that the truck had been stolen and used to ram into the front of the business, causing significant damage and allowing the theft of several items, including firearms.

Kaderion Stokes became a suspect and was arrested in Memphis in October 2023 on unrelated charges. During the arrest, authorities found him in possession of two of the stolen firearms. Following a federal grand jury indictment, a federal arrest warrant was issued, leading to Stokes’ arrest by the United States Marshals Service at a Memphis apartment. At the time, Stokes was found with a firearm equipped with a machinegun conversion device.

The grand jury subsequently issued a superseding indictment, adding charges related to the possession of the conversion device alongside the theft of firearms. On October 31, 2024, Stokes pled guilty in federal court. He was sentenced on January 29, 2025, by Senior United States District Court Judge Jon P. McCalla to 87 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. It should be noted that the federal system does not offer parole.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Atoka Police Department, with assistance from the United States Marshals Service and the Memphis Police Department. Acting U.S. Attorney Reagan Fondren acknowledged the efforts of Assistant United States Attorneys Marques Young and Eileen Kuo, along with Special Assistant United States Attorney Raven Icaza, who prosecuted the case.
