Knoxville Initiates Downtown Parking Plan

Knoxville begins updates to downtown parking with new signage and digital payment options.

Knoxville city officials will begin implementing changes to the downtown parking system in March. This update is part of a revised parking plan introduced last year, with full implementation slated for the first quarter of 2025.

The initial phase involves the introduction of ParkMobile, a digital payment system already used in many locations, including the University of Tennessee campus. Residents are advised to download the ParkMobile app from the App Store or Google Play to prepare for the transition starting in March.

City crews will commence the replacement of parking signs and meters on March 1. This process is expected to last throughout the month, marking the first step in the parking conversion.

Changes to on-street parking rates will be enforced starting March 10, 2025, with the following adjustments:

– 2-hour maximum Parking Zone: rate increase from $1.50 to $2 per hour

– 4-hour maximum Parking Zone: rate increase from $0.30 to $1 per hour; 10-hour maximum zones will be converted to 4-hour maximum zones

Key points to note include the continuation of free parking during nights and weekends, the retention of all 15-minute free Stop-n-Go locations, and the acceptance of cash payments in all City-owned garages.
