Investigation Underway in Denise Drive Fatal Shooting

Authorities are investigating a self-defense claim in a fatal shooting on Denise Drive.

A self-defense claim is currently under investigation following the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Maurice Blackmun on Denise Drive early Sunday morning. According to the details of the investigation so far, the incident occurred after a group of friends returned from a birthday celebration. Blackmun reportedly assaulted a family member outside the residence, prompting 19-year-old Adrian Harvell to intervene.

Witnesses recounted that the group then entered the home, where Blackmun confronted Harvell by first placing him in a chokehold. Blackmun then followed Harvell into the living room, allegedly making repeated threats of violence against Harvell and the other witnesses present.

In response, Harvell drew a handgun and demanded Blackmun back away, subsequently firing a single shot that struck Blackmun. Blackmun was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of now, no charges have been filed against Harvell. The investigation will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office upon completion.
