The Nashville Police Department is urging residents to adopt safer practices by locking their vehicle doors, securing valuable items—particularly firearms—and removing keys from their cars. This initiative, known as “Park Smart,” comes in response to a significant number of guns being stolen from vehicles in the city. To date, 149 firearms have been reported stolen from vehicles in Nashville, with 25 incidents occurring just last week. In total, 76.8% of all guns reported as stolen this year in Davidson County have been taken from automobiles.
In an effort to combat vehicle theft and related crimes, the Nashville Police Department launched a special initiative last February. This program has led to 1,116 arrests, and the recovery of 604 stolen vehicles and 259 guns. The police department notes that stolen vehicles, much like guns taken from cars, are frequently used in criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.
Residents are encouraged to be more vigilant and adopt the park smart strategies to help reduce these incidents and ensure community safety.
