Donald Lee Collins, a 41-year-old resident of Clarksville, Tennessee, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison following a guilty plea to two counts of sexual abuse of a minor and one count of attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor. The sentencing was announced by Robert E. McGuire, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee. In addition to his prison term, Collins is required to register as a sex offender.
Court documents reveal that in late December 2019, Collins initiated contact with the minor victim through Facebook Messenger. The victim, who was the daughter of a friend, and Collins exchanged sexually explicit messages and images. On December 31, 2019, the minor stayed overnight at Collins’ home with his teenage daughter. The following morning, Collins sexually abused the minor at his residence. He further abused the victim while driving her to her father’s house on Fort Campbell, both before entering the base and after they had passed through the gate. Collins continued his inappropriate communications with the minor via Facebook Messenger after January 1, 2020.
Due to these actions, Collins was discharged from the Army under other than honorable conditions. Following his incarceration, he will be subject to a ten-year supervised release.
The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Nashville Field Office, Clarksville Resident Agency, conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Monica R. Morrison prosecuted the case.
