A tragic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon at 4:15 p.m. on Nolensville Pike near Goins Road, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist. The incident involved a BMW S1000RR motorcycle, operated by 23-year-old Marco Macias from Nashville, which collided with a Chevrolet Silverado. According to the preliminary investigation, Macias was traveling south at high speed when he hit the front of the Chevrolet Silverado as it was joining the roadway from a parking lot.
Following the initial collision, the motorcycle crossed the road and impacted the front of a northbound Jeep Compass. Unfortunately, Macias succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Silverado, a 32-year-old, was unharmed and stayed at the scene for the investigation. The Jeep Compass driver, aged 22, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for evaluation. Her 2-year-old son, who was also in the vehicle, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Vanderbilt Pediatrics.
Preliminary results suggest that excessive speed on the part of the motorcyclist was a contributing factor to the crash. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) urges motorcyclists to ensure their visibility, maintain sufficient space, stay mindful of other motorists’ blind spots, and always wear a helmet.
