East Precinct Officers Arrest Suspect in Car Burglaries

A man was arrested for multiple car burglaries in Nashville's East Precinct.

East Precinct officers successfully apprehended a 20-year-old man, Tonderius Sanchez Jones, suspected of committing several car burglaries in the Summer Place and Lenore Street areas, as well as a burglary at the Explore Community School on S. 7th Street. Jones, who was already out on a $30,000 bond for a previous gun-related charge, now faces multiple criminal charges. These include seven counts of vehicle burglary, burglary of the school, assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, evading arrest, and making threats against officers’ families.

The arrest occurred late Thursday night following a report from a woman who chased a man breaking into her car. The suspect was described as wearing a white sweatshirt, black jeans, a ski mask, and carrying a backpack. Although initial police efforts did not locate him, a subsequent break-in at the Explore Community School was reported. School security identified the suspect wearing similar clothing, but he fled the scene before police arrived.

Officers later spotted Jones on Shelby Avenue heading toward I-24. Upon attempting to flee, he was captured shortly thereafter. A search of his belongings revealed broken car window glass, a window punch tool, money, six cell phones, a ski mask, and various credit cards not in his name. Concurrently, additional victims reported car break-ins on Lenore Street, with evidence linking Jones to those incidents as well. He is currently being held on a $122,000 bond set by a judicial commissioner.
