Weekly East Tennessee Road Construction Update

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has released an update on construction activities and road closures for the week of January 2-8, 2025, across East Tennessee counties.

In Anderson County, State Route 62 between State Route 61 and Union Valley Road may experience temporary lane closures nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to the presence of workers.

Blount County has ongoing work on I-140 between Mile Markers 11 and 0, with potential shoulder and lane closures during nighttime hours. State Route 162 on Pellissippi Parkway is reduced to one lane for bridge work, and SR 334 bridge repairs over the CSX Railroad will involve lane closures.

Campbell County’s I-75 between Mile Markers 156 and 161 may have nightly lane closures, while SR 63 sees daytime lane closures from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In Carter County, the US 321/SR 67 Bridge over the Doe River and a section of US 321/SR 159 are closed due to storm damage. Motorists are advised to find alternate routes.

Claiborne County is experiencing possible temporary lane closures on SR 63 during the day.

Cocke County’s I-40 East is closed at Mile Marker 451 due to storm damage, with local traffic access only between Mile Markers 447 and 451. US 25/70 has truck traffic restrictions between Tennessee and North Carolina.

In Greene County, SR 35 and SR 107 Bridge over the Nolichucky River have various closures and reduced lanes due to storm damage and ongoing construction.

Hamblen County’s US 25/SR 32 is undergoing concrete rehabilitation, possibly affecting lanes.

Jefferson County has lane closure alerts for US 25/70/SR 9 over Rimmer Creek and SR 113 at SR 341 for intersection improvements.

Johnson County’s US 321/SR 159 is closed due to storm damage.

Knox County sees various closures and maintenance activities on I-40 and I-140, along with construction on US 129/SR 115 Alcoa Highway.

Loudon and Monroe Counties have construction projects affecting I-40 East and US 411/SR 33, respectively.

Morgan County’s SR 116 is reduced to one lane for bridge replacement.

Sullivan County has construction on SR 75 and SR 93 Bridge, potentially impacting traffic.

Unicoi County’s I-26 East and West have reduced lanes with restrictions on vehicle width due to narrow lanes and no shoulder.

Union County is working on SR 33, which may affect traffic patterns.

Various routes in upper East Tennessee remain under repair due to Hurricane Helene damage.

Washington County has several closures on SR 81 and SR 353 Bridge due to storm damage.

Free Transit to Knoxville Warming Centers

Knoxville Area Transit, in partnership with the Knoxville–Knox County Office of Housing Stability, is providing free transit to warming centers from January 6 to January 11, 2025, to assist residents during a period of extreme cold. Passengers can request complimentary rides to designated warming centers by informing bus operators of their intention to use the service. Various local churches and a Salvation Army overflow site will offer overnight accommodations, with accessibility via specific KAT routes.
