Weekly East Tennessee Construction Updates

Overview of construction updates and road closures in East Tennessee from January 9-15, 2025.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has released construction updates and road closures for East Tennessee for the week of January 9-15, 2025.

In Blount County, motorists on I-140 East and West between Mile Markers 11 and 0 should be aware of shoulder and possible lane closures during nighttime hours as part of an I.T.S. expansion project. Additionally, SR 162 Pellissippi Parkway between Cusick Road and SR 33 is down to one lane for bridge work, and the SR 334 bridge over the CSX Railroad is undergoing repairs, requiring caution from drivers.

In Campbell County, I-75 North and South between Mile Markers 156 and 161 may experience nightly lane closures, and SR 63 has temporary lane closures between Frontier Road/Woodson Lane and the Claiborne County Line, as well as between SR 297 and Stinking Creek Road.

Carter County reports that the US 321/SR 67 Bridge over the Doe River is closed due to storm damage, with large trucks needing alternate routes. Similarly, US 321/SR 159 between Green Hollow Road and Poga Road remains closed.

In Cocke County, I-40 East at Mile Marker 451 is closed due to storm damage, with restricted access in North Carolina, and US 25/70 between Tennessee and Hot Springs, NC, is prohibited for thru truck traffic. SR 35 is undergoing construction with possible lane closures.

Greene County’s SR 35 and SR 351 Bridges over the Nolichucky River have lane restrictions due to storm damage.

In Hamblen County, US 25/SR 32 is under a concrete rehabilitation project, and Jefferson County has construction on US 25/70/SR 9 over Rimmer Creek and SR 113 at SR 341.

Johnson County’s US 321/SR 159 is closed due to storm damage. In Knox County, the I-40 West ramp to I-275 North will close nightly for repairs, and various interstates through Knoxville may have mobile lane closures.

Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, and Sullivan Counties have ongoing construction and bridge repair projects, leading to possible lane closures.

Unicoi County’s I-26 East and West have lane reductions due to narrow lanes, and SR 36 and SR 81 are closed due to storm damage.

Union County is experiencing lane closures for a widening project on SR 33. Various routes in Upper East Tennessee continue repairs from Hurricane Helene damage.

Washington County reports lane closures for guardrail repairs on I-26 East and SR 81 Bridge over the Nolichucky River is closed due to storm damage.

TDOT Winter Weather Preparations in Tennessee

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is preparing for winter weather in Region 4 by deploying resources across 21 counties, including salt trucks and brine, and advising drivers to stay off roads on January 10, 2025, to ensure effective road clearing.
