Venezuelan Citizen Arrested for Firearm Possession in Nashville

Venezuelan citizen charged with illegal firearm possession in Nashville, Tennessee.

NASHVILLE – Elmer Humberto Aparicio Castillo, a 28-year-old resident of Nashville, Tennessee, was charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal alien, as announced by Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, Robert E. McGuire. Aparicio Castillo, a Venezuelan citizen, is unlawfully present in the United States and has a criminal history related to immigration offenses.

“This prosecution demonstrates our continued commitment to enforcing the law, especially against those who are prohibited from carrying firearms,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney Robert E. McGuire.

The incident took place on January 8, 2025, when federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Nashville, alongside other law enforcement officers, executed a federal search warrant at a residence located at 2334 Hobson Pike in Antioch, Tennessee. As agents approached the house, five male occupants, including Aparicio Castillo, attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended.

During a safety sweep following the arrest, officers discovered a Glock 23, Gen 4 .40 caliber pistol with an extended magazine capable of holding up to 31 rounds, loaded with 19 9mm rounds. After waiving his Miranda rights, Aparicio Castillo confessed to having the pistol in his possession and admitted to discarding it while fleeing.

The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel M. Stephens is responsible for prosecuting the case. It is important to note that a complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
