Urgent Call for Blood Donors Ahead of Winter Storm

Blood Assurance urges public to donate blood before approaching winter storm.

With a winter storm predicted for Friday, Blood Assurance is calling on the public to consider donating blood, plasma, or platelets as part of their preparation plans. Inclement weather often results in canceled blood drives and reduced donor participation, leading to potentially dangerous shortages. The organization stresses the importance of donor contributions before the storm to avoid a shortfall, as the demand for blood remains constant.

Blood donations are critical for saving lives, supporting patients undergoing surgery, those fighting cancer, accident victims, and numerous others who depend on the generosity of donors. To make a difference before the winter storm arrives, Blood Assurance encourages individuals to visit their nearest center today or on Thursday. Donors can also locate a mobile blood drive nearby by visiting the Blood Assurance website, schedule a donation by calling 800-962-0628, or text BAGIVE to 999777.

Throughout January, all donors will receive a special “Save Lives” long-sleeve t-shirt in appreciation of their contribution. Additionally, O-negative donors and AB plasma donors will receive a $25 e-gift card.

To be eligible to donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. Donors are also advised to stay hydrated and eat a hearty meal before donating.
