Union City Man Receives 105-Month Sentence for Firearm Possession

Michael Eaton sentenced to over eight years for firearm possession as a convicted felon.

Michael Eaton, a 41-year-old resident of Union City, Tennessee, has been sentenced to 105 months in federal prison. Eaton’s sentencing follows his guilty plea for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The sentence was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, Reagan Fondren.

The incident leading to Eaton’s arrest occurred on February 11, 2023, when a Union City Police Department officer stopped a silver Ford SUV for a window tint violation near Todd Street. Eaton, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to be in possession of a loaded Charter Arms .38 special caliber revolver during a confrontation with law enforcement.

Eaton’s criminal history includes a 2000 conviction for possession of a controlled substance with intent to resell, resulting in a 10-year sentence. In 2010, he received an 8-year sentence for attempting an armed robbery at a Union City grocery store.

In January 2024, Eaton was indicted in the Western District of Tennessee for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and he pled guilty to the charge in August 2024. United States District Court Judge S. Thomas Anderson handed down Eaton’s sentence on December 30, 2024. In addition to the 105-month prison term, Eaton will undergo three years of supervised release following his imprisonment. It should be noted that there is no parole in the federal system.

This case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhood Initiative, which aims to reduce violent crime by fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, and setting strategic enforcement priorities. The case was investigated by the Union City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Acting U.S. Attorney Fondren expressed gratitude to Assistant United States Attorney Immanuel Chioco for prosecuting the case, as well as to the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation.
