U.S. Attorney’s Office Collects Over $27 Million in 2024

The Eastern District of Tennessee collected over $27 million in legal actions and asset forfeitures.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Tennessee announced significant collections in fiscal year 2024, totaling $22,332,003.83 from criminal and civil actions. Of this amount, $10,674,477.21 was recovered from criminal actions, while $11,657,526.62 was gathered from civil actions. Additionally, the office, in collaboration with partner agencies, collected $5,043,741 through asset forfeiture actions.

These efforts are part of the responsibilities of the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Department’s litigating divisions, which enforce and collect civil and criminal debts owed to the U.S., as well as criminal debts owed to federal crime victims. The law mandates that defendants provide restitution to victims of specific federal crimes who have experienced physical injury or financial loss. While restitution is directed to victims, criminal fines and felony assessments contribute to the Department’s Crime Victims Fund. This fund supports federal and state victim compensation and assistance programs.

Assets forfeited and deposited into the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture Fund are utilized to reimburse crime victims and support various law enforcement activities.
