NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has announced two significant appointments within the state’s judicial branch. Expressing confidence in their capabilities, Gov. Lee stated, “I am proud to announce the appointment of these highly qualified individuals and value the significant experience they will bring to their respective roles. I appreciate their leadership and am confident they will serve Tennesseans with integrity.”
The appointed individuals are:
– Jeremy Ball has been appointed as Circuit Court Judge in the 4th Judicial District. Ball, who currently serves as Assistant District Attorney for the same district, holds a bachelor’s degree from Carson-Newman College and a juris doctor from Vanderbilt University Law School. The 4th Judicial District Court covers Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson, and Sevier counties. Ball’s appointment is to fill the vacancy left by the untimely passing of Judge Duane Slone and is effective immediately.
– Melanie Sellers has been appointed as Public Defender in the 1st Judicial District. Sellers, who serves as Assistant District Public Defender for the same district, completed her bachelor’s degree at East Tennessee State University and earned her juris doctor at the University of Tennessee College of Law. The 1st Judicial District Court covers Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington counties. Her appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Jeffery Kelly and is effective March 1, 2025.

Tennessee Board Awards $400,000 Grants to Universities
The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance announced that the state Board of Examiners for Architects and Engineers will provide $400,000 in grants to 19 programs at 13 universities in 2025, aimed at supporting architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, and interior design education.
