TDOT Prepares for Winter Weather in Tennessee

TDOT Region 4 prepares for incoming winter weather in Tennessee.

In anticipation of the upcoming winter weather, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) in Region 4 is taking measures to ensure driver safety across 21 counties. With a budget of $5.2 million for snow and ice management this fiscal year, the maintenance teams are equipped with 176 salt trucks, 139 brine trucks, 29,000 tons of salt, 508,000 gallons of brine, and 30 strategically placed salt bins.

Crews have begun pre-treating interstates and state routes across West Tennessee to prepare for the forecasted ice and snow. Their initial focus will be on heavily trafficked interstates and state routes, followed by secondary routes. TDOT advises drivers to avoid travel on January 10, 2025, to allow crews to clear roads effectively.

Jason Baker, Director of Region 4, emphasized the importance of driver preparation and adjusting driving habits to maintain safety. TDOT has also provided resources for winter weather preparations, safe driving tips, and road condition updates on their website.
