South 17th Street Closure Scheduled for Maintenance

South 17th Street will be closed next week for electrical conduit installation.

A section of South 17th Street, located between Cumberland and White avenues, is scheduled to be closed next week. The closure is set to occur while University of Tennessee students are largely off-campus due to the winter break. This downtime will allow a contractor to install new electrical conduit efficiently.

The street and adjoining sidewalks will undergo closure from Monday, January 6, to Sunday, January 12. Although there will be intermittent openings during morning and afternoon commuting hours, the street will remain closed throughout the weekend of January 11-12.

The installation will be carried out by ShoffnerKalthoff MES crews, who are tasked with placing new conduit from an electrical vault to a new restaurant that is set to open in the Cumberland Avenue corridor.
