The City of Knoxville has announced an open house meeting to discuss the upcoming Sevier Avenue Streetscape Project. This project, which involves a significant investment of $19.2 million, will include the construction of wide ADA-compliant sidewalks, a new railroad crossing, new streetlights, updated traffic signals, a roundabout, and upgraded utilities to be relocated underground.
The project is scheduled to commence later this month, with Whaley Construction and Southern Constructors Inc. as the designated contractors. It is expected to continue through the summer of 2026. Throughout the duration of the project, access to businesses and South Knoxville Elementary School will remain open. Generally, two lanes of traffic will be maintained on Sevier Avenue, with flaggers directing traffic when necessary.
To provide residents with the latest information, City staff will host an open house meeting at South Knoxville Elementary School, located at 801 Sevier Ave., on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. This will be a drop-in event where community members can learn more about the project and its impact.
