Ronnie Johnson Honored with December 2024 STARS Award

Ronnie Johnson was recognized as the December 2024 recipient of the STARS Award during a City Council meeting on January 16, 2025. Mayor Shane McFarland presented the award to Johnson, commending his dedication and hard work in maintaining the cleanliness of the city streets. Johnson was nominated by his colleagues, who praised his exceptional work ethic and positive attitude.

Nominations from fellow employees highlighted Johnson’s commitment, with statements such as, “I always see Ronnie keeping our city clean. He is an exceptional worker and we should all work by his example,” and “Ronnie is dedicated to the City and is always working hard. And he always does it with a smile!” Raymond Hillis, Executive Director of Public Works, also expressed high regard for Johnson, calling him an “A-1 employee” and appreciating his efforts in keeping the streets of Murfreesboro in excellent condition.

Ronnie Johnson’s tenure with the City of Murfreesboro began in October 1991, where he initially worked as a temporary employee in the Sanitation Department. Over the years, he has held various positions, both seasonal and full-time, before becoming a Public Works Technician II in the Street Department. His career progression reflects his dedication to public service and the respect he commands among his peers.

The STARS Service Excellence program exists to recognize city employees who demonstrate the highest standards of service excellence, embodying the core values of the city. STARS, which stands for “Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence,” acknowledges employees who exceed their regular duties in providing outstanding customer service. A committee of City employees reviews monthly nominations and selects the STARS award recipients.
