During the City Council meeting held on January 16, 2025, Mayor Shane McFarland recognized Ronnie Johnson as a STAR recipient. Johnson was nominated by his colleagues in December for his diligent work and conscientious attitude in keeping the city’s streets clean. Fellow employees praised Johnson, describing him as an exceptional worker and a dedicated individual who always performs his duties with a smile. Raymond Hillis, Executive Director of Public Works, commended Johnson’s positive attitude and the pride he takes in his work, noting that the cleanliness of Murfreesboro’s streets leaves visitors with a great impression of the city.
Johnson’s career with the City of Murfreesboro began in October 1991 when he was hired temporarily in the Sanitation Department. Over the years, he held various seasonal, part-time, and full-time positions, gaining a reputation for his strong work ethic and dedication to public service. He became a full-time employee as a Laborer I in the Sign and Street Department in April 2003, and later transitioned to a Public Works Technician II in the Street Department.
The STARS Service Excellence program aims to recognize employees who exceed their job duties and provide exceptional customer service. The award highlights individuals who embody the city’s service excellence standards and core values. A committee of city employees reviews nominations for the STAR award each month and selects the recipients.
