Remains Identified as Missing Person from 1998

DNA confirms 2010 remains as Marcus Rutledge, missing since 1998.

In a significant development, unidentified remains discovered in 2010 have been confirmed to belong to Marcus Rutledge, who was reported missing on June 8, 1998. The identification was made possible through DNA analysis, which matched the remains to a DNA profile provided by a family member. Rutledge’s vehicle was located on June 30, 1998, at an apartment complex on Cabot Drive in West Nashville. The remains were found by a hunter on December 8, 2010, in a wooded area near Ashland City Highway and Pecan Valley Road, approximately 30-40 yards from the road.

The skull was the only part of the human remains discovered at the time and was subsequently taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for examination. The DNA profile was uploaded to CODIS, facilitating the match.

Authorities suspect foul play in Marcus Rutledge’s disappearance. The Cold Case-Homicide/Missing Persons Unit detectives are continuing their investigation to uncover further details about the case.
