In 2024, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) saw significant benefits from the implementation of online reporting for non-emergency incidents. Over 10,000 individuals involved in non-injury fender-bender vehicle crashes utilized the online platform to file reports, saving an estimated 15,078 officer hours. This initiative enabled patrol officers to allocate their time and resources to more critical community issues.
The online reporting system for crash incidents has been operational since August 2022. Similarly, nearly 4,800 individuals opted to report minor offenses such as lost property, thefts from yards or sheds, shoplifting, and harassing phone calls through the online system. These reports are subsequently directed to the appropriate investigative units for further action. The introduction of online reporting for minor offenses in December 2023 is estimated to have saved an additional 7,185 patrol officer hours.
The overall impact of the online reporting system has been a more efficient allocation of police resources, allowing officers to prioritize and respond to more urgent calls in the community. This system is a part of MNPD’s ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency and enhance public safety in Nashville.
