The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) has partnered with the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) to initiate a rideshare zone pilot program. This program will run for four weeks, starting from Tuesday, January 28th to Sunday, February 23rd, 2025. The primary objective of the pilot is to alleviate event-related congestion at TPAC and enhance the overall rideshare experience. To achieve this, NDOT will designate specific areas for rideshare and taxi pick-up and drop-off on Deaderick Street, utilizing spaces that are typically metered parking spots.
These zones will be clearly marked and monitored by NDOT Code Enforcement to ensure they provide safe, efficient spaces for passenger loading, thereby keeping traffic flowing smoothly during events. This initiative will also offer valuable data to help NDOT develop a comprehensive rideshare zone framework that could be applied across downtown Nashville as part of the Connect Downtown Action Plan. Approved by the Metro Council in April 2024, this plan includes various strategies to manage congestion in Nashville’s downtown area, with an emphasis on curb-side passenger loading.
