Mayor Freddie O’Connell has signed Executive Order No. 54, which establishes an Advisory Committee on Transportation for the Choose How You Move Transportation Improvement Program. This committee aims to incorporate both technical expertise and community input into the program’s implementation. The program, which received 66% approval from Nashville voters on November 5, 2024, is designed to enhance the city’s transportation infrastructure.
Mayor O’Connell emphasized the importance of community involvement in the program, noting that it was shaped by extensive public input over more than a decade. The newly formed committee will ensure that the voices of Nashville residents continue to influence the development of the city’s transit system.
The committee will have up to 15 members, including the Vice Mayor or a designee, five members elected by the Metro Council, and nine appointed by the mayor. Members will be drawn from various sectors, including non-profit, private, public, and interested citizen groups, or they may be elected officials. Appointees will serve two-year terms.
The committee is set to meet regularly and will work alongside the Chief Program Officer, who is yet to be hired. Their responsibilities include advocating for community needs, promoting program awareness, consulting with the Chief Program Officer to advise the mayor, reviewing public meeting outcomes, and supporting the vision of a safer and more equitable transportation system.
