A Nashville man, George Charles Carter III, who has a history of 11 felony convictions, has been charged with the attempted murder of a 24-year-old man. Carter, 48, was previously out on bond for a robbery and shooting incident that occurred in May 2024. The recent incident took place early Sunday at the intersection of Lafayette and Lincoln Streets, where Behroz Salmani was shot while inside his vehicle. Witnesses reported an argument over money preceding the gunfire. Salmani, wounded in both arms, accelerated his Jeep Wrangler and collided with a Toyota SUV. While Salmani sustained serious injuries, the individuals in the Toyota were unharmed.
Surveillance footage helped identify Carter as the suspect. He was seen fleeing the scene in a Dodge Avenger. Coordinated efforts by the Specialized Investigations Division led to Carter’s arrest on Monday. Carter attempted to evade arrest, leading officers and a police helicopter on a pursuit in the Dodge Avenger.

Alongside attempted murder, Carter faces charges of unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon, gun possession during a dangerous felony, evading arrest, and possession of meth with intent to resell. His bond has been set at $1,226,000. At the time of his arrest, Carter was free on a $50,000 bond from a previous arrest in May for shooting and robbing a man on Herman Street.
