As Nashville experiences its coldest temperatures this winter, Metro Social Services (MSS) has activated its Severe Weather Response to ensure the safety of vulnerable populations in the city. The measures taken are designed to protect residents and families during this period of extreme cold.
One of the key actions includes the delivery of emergency meals to homebound clients, including seniors and individuals with disabilities. These emergency meals are supplementary to the regular weekly delivery of hot and cold meals, ensuring clients have adequate food supplies in case severe weather impacts their ability to access food. During meal deliveries, MSS representatives will also check the functionality of essential home appliances and facilitate immediate repairs if necessary.
MSS has elevated the Senior Welfare Check program to Level 2, which involves more frequent communications and specific weather-related inquiries. The program ensures that clients have adequate heating, clear pathways, and necessary medications. This service is available to all senior and disabled clients, whether they are homebound or not.
In collaboration with the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), MSS is an integral part of the city’s disaster response plan. The executive director maintains communication with OEM leadership, while team leaders monitor weather conditions to ensure readiness for activation.
Currently, Metro Social Services will continue operating under normal business hours, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at their location on 3055 Lebanon Pike in Hermitage.

In 2024, the Sustainability Division and General Services Department of Nashville launched initiatives across Design/Build, Energy, Waste, Mobility, and Water sectors, leading to increased efficiency and sustainability.
