The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will close the I-55 Mississippi River Bridge this weekend to continue construction on the I-55 and Crump interchange. The closure is part of ongoing construction efforts, with this being the sixth of eight planned weekend closures. Weather conditions will dictate if the work proceeds as scheduled.
The closure will begin Friday, January 17 at 8:00 p.m. and last until Monday, January 20 at 6:00 a.m. During this time, the following traffic changes will be in effect:
– Southbound I-55 will be closed at Bridgeport Road in Arkansas.
– Northbound I-55 will be closed at South Parkway in Tennessee, with local traffic allowed to proceed to the McLemore exit.
– Crump Boulevard westbound will be closed.
A detour route will be provided for affected traffic. Northbound I-55 traffic will be rerouted to the newly completed bridge, but it will remain restricted to a single lane through the construction zone and over the bridge.
For real-time updates on construction activities, travelers can access live-streaming SmartWay traffic cameras on the TDOT website via this link: www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic. TDOT advises drivers to use all available travel information tools and to check conditions before setting out on their journeys. Motorists are reminded to avoid using mobile devices while driving.
