Middle Tennessee Student Art Exhibition Returns to Parthenon

Middle Tennessee's student art exhibition returns to the Parthenon from January 23 to March 1.

The 17th annual Middle Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition is set to take place at the Parthenon in Nashville this winter, in collaboration with the Centennial Park Conservancy, Metro Nashville Parks & Recreation, and the Tennessee Art Education Association. The exhibition will feature a range of art forms, including ceramics, computer graphics, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. The display will run from January 23 to March 1, with an opening reception and awards ceremony scheduled for January 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Nearly 800 submissions were received from students in grades 6-12 from Middle Tennessee public and private schools, as well as homeschooled students. A panel of judges from the Watkins School of Art at Belmont University selected 188 winners, awarding first, second, and third place prizes, along with honorable mentions for each grade level in every artistic category. Awards for Best of Show, Best of High School, and other categories were also given based on originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal vision.

Watkins School of Art at Belmont University is offering scholarships to sophomore, junior, and senior winners in each category, as well as to the Best of High School winner. The judging panel consisted of Benjy Davies, Associate Dean; Brandon Williams, Assistant Professor of Printmaking; and Lane Carnell, Community Education Coordinator at Watkins.

Jennifer Richardson, curator at the Parthenon, expressed enthusiasm for the event, highlighting the continued partnership with Belmont University and the impact of the scholarships. She also noted the high level of entries, appreciating the dedication of teachers and parents in nurturing these young artists.

The winning artworks will be displayed on Level 2 with the Athena statue and will also feature in the Best of the Best Statewide Exhibition at Middle Tennessee State University in July. The artists’ reception is open to the public, with free admission and RSVPs accepted via Eventbrite. More information is available on the Parthenon’s website.

The Parthenon operates under the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County’s Parks and Recreation Department and is supported by partners including Amazon, Advance Financial Foundation, and the Tennessee Arts Commission. For further details, visit conservancyonline.com.
