Metro Social Services’ Winter Weather Preparations

Metro Social Services readies Davidson County residents for upcoming snowstorm.

Metro Social Services (MSS) has announced a set of initiatives to prepare for an impending snowstorm, aimed at supporting residents in Davidson County facing various challenges. These preparations include meal deliveries, welfare calls, urgent home visits, and coordination with emergency management.

To address the needs of homebound clients, including seniors and disabled individuals, MSS has delivered 1,598 regularly scheduled meals and distributed 822 emergency food boxes this week. Each box is equipped with non-perishable food items that can last up to a week without the need for electricity.

Additionally, MSS has launched a new service for making welfare calls to its senior and disabled clients. Approximately 900 calls were made this week to ensure their wellbeing, addressing specific needs such as prescription refills and heating system checks. In urgent cases, home visits were conducted to deliver essential items and address immediate concerns.

MSS Executive Director Renee Pratt has maintained communication with Nashville’s Office of Emergency Management to monitor the weather event closely. As a precaution, the MSS office and phone lines will be closed on Friday, January 10, 2025, with further updates on office hours expected on Monday, January 13.

Metropolitan Social Services offers various support services to promote positive change for individuals and families in crisis, including counseling, family support, mental health services, nutrition, and more.
