Man Arrested After Entering Nashville Community Center in Disguise

Travis Keith Garland was arrested for trespassing and causing alarm at a Nashville community center.

A 31-year-old man from East Tennessee, identified as Travis Keith Garland, was arrested after entering the Gordon Jewish Community Center in Nashville while wearing a disguise. The arrest took place on Wednesday afternoon in Maryville, Blount County, after Nashville police issued a criminal trespassing warrant for Garland’s actions on Monday evening.

Garland entered the community center located on Percy Warner Boulevard, disguised with a fake beard, fake lock curls, a black coat, and a white silk scarf to mimic the appearance of an orthodox Jewish Rabbi. He was holding a cell phone, suggesting he might be recording or streaming the event. He asked to speak with a Rabbi but was informed by the front desk staff that no Rabbi was present.

Despite this information, Garland proceeded to a secured area, which was temporarily accessible due to other members entering. He was stopped by members and a security guard. The security guard reported feeling threatened as Garland seemed to eye his pistol, raising concerns he might attempt to seize it. Garland was escorted off the property by the security guard, who was cautious of potential dangers that might be in Garland’s vehicle.

Upon being confronted by a West Precinct officer, Garland claimed he was partaking in an Internet prank. He was unarmed and allowed to leave after being warned. However, further investigation by Security Threat detectives, in conjunction with the Community Center staff and the District Attorney’s Office, led to his arrest.

Garland was charged with criminal trespassing and assault for causing fear in the security guard. He has been transported back to Nashville and is currently held at the Downtown Detention Center with a bond set at $250,000.
