CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Motorists traveling on Interstate 40 in Putnam County should prepare for temporary lane closures due to pavement repairs. On the specified date, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm local time, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will conduct a mobile pothole patching operation. This work will require temporary closures of the right lane in both directions from mile marker 290 to mile marker 304.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution while navigating through the work area and should anticipate significant delays, particularly near Monterey Mountain. Signage will be in place to guide drivers through the construction zone. The maintenance work is weather-dependent, and any inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances may lead to rescheduling.
Uniformed police officers will be present to assist with traffic management and ensure safety. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed by checking travel conditions before starting their journey. TDOT provides updates on construction activity and traffic conditions through the SmartWay Map. Travelers can also access statewide travel information by calling 511.
Drivers are reminded to comply with the Move Over Law, established in 2006, which mandates moving over for stopped emergency vehicles. Non-compliance may result in penalties, including up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.
