Knoxville City Offices Closed for MLK Day

Knoxville city offices will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

City of Knoxville offices will be closed on Monday, January 20, 2025, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. However, Waste Connections will continue its regular residential garbage and recycling routes on that day. The downtown crews responsible for collecting trash and recyclables will also follow their usual schedule.

The City’s Solid Waste Facility, located at 1033 Elm Street, will not be operational from Saturday, January 18, through Monday, January 20. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, January 21. Meanwhile, the City’s five recycling drop-off centers will remain open on Monday, January 20, with a Goodwill attendant available to accept donations of household goods.

Additionally, the closure on Monday will include the 311 Center for Service Innovation, which handles the 311 and 211 phone numbers. Residents needing to report concerns to 311 or access 211 services on Monday are encouraged to use the My Knoxville app, available for both Apple and Android devices, to report issues such as potholes, graffiti, and overgrown lots. For a comprehensive list of social services, residents can visit 211.org.

Knoxville Area Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on January 20, and the Knoxville Station customer service counter will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

For those interested in additional events related to the holiday, a list of activities planned by Knoxville’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Commission can be found at www.mlkknoxville.com. Events include the Night with the Arts Tribute on January 19 and the MLK Jr. Memorial Tribute Service on January 20.
