Investigation into Death of Homeless Man in Nashville

Nashville police are investigating the death of a homeless man found near the riverbank.

In Nashville’s first reported homicide of 2025, detectives from the Homicide Unit are currently investigating the death of a man who appeared to be homeless. The individual was discovered on Wednesday near the riverbank under the sidewalk and road of Gay Street at 1st Avenue. The Nashville Fire Department assisted in recovering the body on Wednesday evening.

The victim, identified as a white male, was reportedly residing in the immediate vicinity of the incident. The man suffered blunt force trauma to his head, though the exact time of death has not yet been established. The discovery of the deceased was reported by two other homeless individuals to an ambassador affiliated with the Nashville Downtown Partnership.

Efforts are underway to identify the victim through fingerprint analysis. Additionally, detectives are examining camera footage from the surrounding area as part of the ongoing investigation.
