Homicide Unit detectives, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) and federal and state agencies, are investigating the online writings and social media activity of 17-year-old Solomon Henderson. This investigation aims to determine the motive behind the gunfire that occurred in Antioch High School’s cafeteria earlier today.
The incident resulted in the fatal wounding of 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante and a minor injury to a 17-year-old male student who was grazed in the arm. The latter has received treatment and been discharged from Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Solomon Henderson died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.
Detectives have yet to establish any connection between Henderson and the two victims, suggesting they may have been hit by random gunfire. At the time of the shooting, the school’s resource officers were in another part of the building but responded quickly, arriving just after Henderson’s suicide.
Chief John Drake of the MNPD expressed condolences to the Antioch High School community, stating, “On behalf of this entire police department, I extend our deep condolences to Antioch High students, parents, and staff. Our officers and counselors will work to be part of the healing process in the days and weeks ahead.”
The MNPD has not disclosed any prior interactions with Henderson, as Tennessee law generally protects juvenile information in law enforcement matters.
