High Incidence of Gun Thefts from Vehicles in Nashville

Most guns reported stolen in Nashville have been taken from vehicles.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has reported a concerning trend in which the majority of guns stolen in Nashville have been taken from vehicles. In the current month alone, 64 firearms have been reported stolen from cars, with 14 of these incidents occurring just last week.

In response, the MNPD is urging residents to take preventative measures by locking their car doors, securing any valuables, especially firearms, and removing keys from vehicles.

Since the launch of a special initiative in February to address vehicle theft and related crimes, the MNPD has made substantial progress, resulting in 1,063 arrests, the recovery of 573 stolen vehicles, and the retrieval of 241 guns.

Stolen vehicles and firearms are often subsequently used in criminal activities such as carjackings and robberies, further emphasizing the importance of securing these items to prevent further incidents.

Nashville residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow these safety recommendations to help reduce the occurrence of such thefts.
